I created this page to serve as a landing site for any and all of my non-academic, non-professional output. It can be hard to appreciate all the things you’ve written or thought of or created in your free time without seeing them all in one place, so I thought this might be helpful. I hope for it to be a place of personal internet refuge from doomscrolling; a reminder for when I’m upset with myself for spending time on social media.
The name of the website is a reference to “sous les pavés, la plage!” which is a political slogan from 1968 France meaning “under the paving-stones, the beach!” It also serves as the epigraph in Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice. Apparently someone else had the same idea for a website with the same name, and even seems to have similar motivations. Kudos to that guy, but the perfectionist in me wishes I could’ve beaten him to the non-hyphenated domain.
